Our workshop sits in the west of Edinburgh, a short walk from the Water of Leith and a thirty-minute drive from three of Scotland’s working cooperages. Every piece we sell is drawn, cut, joined and finished under one Scottish roof — by hands that have spent a lifetime in it.
DTJ Joinery has served Edinburgh homeowners, architects and interior designers for years — sash windows in New Town townhouses, fitted studies in Morningside, wrap-around extensions in Bruntsfield. Heritage Scotland is where the same discipline meets the pieces we’ve always wanted to make: collector-grade furniture, whisky rooms, secret cellars, and heirloom cabinets.
No sub-contracted joinery. No factory. No white-label. If you commission a piece, you can visit the workshop and watch it being made.

Our shell timber comes from responsibly-felled Scottish oak. Our detail timber comes from decommissioned Scotch whisky casks — American white oak that has spent thirty years drinking single malt in Speyside, Islay and the Highlands.
Every cabinet we build carries provenance you can trace. The staves in your drawer fronts, the bung-holes on your handles, the sherry-cask cornice above your bottles — each has a distillery name and a story behind it. We keep the records so the piece can too.
How we source and season
Slow work. On purpose.
A single commission moves through the workshop over eight to sixteen weeks. Drawn on paper. Cut on the bandsaw. Jointed on the bench. Sanded, oiled and finished by the same craftsman from first cut to last coat.
You will not find CNC-mass-production here. You will find dovetails cut by hand, mortices chopped by chisel, and drawer bottoms planed to fit their runners. A slower way — not because we can’t buy the machinery, but because the machinery cannot buy the feel.
